Stem: 60-100 mm in length, contorted often bulbous near the middle, pure white. Flesh bruising bluish where injured. No persistent annulus but an annular zone can often be distinguished on the surface of the stem.

Gills: Attachment adnate to adnexed, very close, underdeveloped. White aging to blue grey in extreme age.

Spores: Few, transparent, subellipsoid on 4-spored basidia, white in a deposit.
